Meet the

If we were chatting in person, we’d probably be accompanied by our velcro dog, drinking a good cup of coffee and we would get waaaay too excited hearing about your story. But since we’re not and we haven’t mastered telepathy (yet), here’s a little bit about us!

We both studied Visual Communication BA & Honours at Open Window Institute! JP studied Film Arts & Sound and I did Illustration, Design and Photography. About four years ago, we relocated to Cape Town and OH MY - we are still in awe of this beautiful city! We love story-telling and real, raw moments between people.

Your Cape Town photo & video team, golden hour enthusiasts and professional third wheels!

Hi, Miriek
& JP here!

About US

Let's work together →

I am a documentary photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Besides loving what I do, I’m also a qualified Visual Communication and BA Honours Graphic Designer & Illustrator with 6+ years of experience, working in the wedding industry. I am in absolute awe of all things visual, a hopeless romantic - always after warm, authentic story telling. I seek capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

What’s your story?

Married, wildly in love - documenting the wildly in love.

Broadly speaking, outside the context of weddings, documentary photography originated in the mid 19th century as a means to record historical events, developing later into a tool to advocate for social change.

Documentary photographers later went on to record all aspects of the world around them with a largely anti-interventionist mindset. They observed and documented, creating art without directly influencing the subject or scene. The practice of using observation was rooted in the belief that people, as they exist in their natural, everyday lives, are inherently interesting, and that making a good photograph did not require any direction.

Even further, many documentary photographers believed that making a photograph that said something of value about a subject should not involve any direction, that humanity in its natural form is what makes art.

let me explain.

What is documentary photography?

MY APPROACH

"Best photographer in Cape Town!"

Check out weddings →LIFESTYLE SESSIONS →

A documentary wedding photographer adopts a largely anti-interventionist approach. We believe that the events of the day, as they naturally unfold without direction, are where the real interest is. I want to observe, more than direct. I want myself and my clients to stay fully present in the reality of the day and to position ourselves around what's actually happening

Of course I will offer reassurance and some guidance during times when people feel vulnerable! I might provide some loose direction for portraits, family photos etc. But for the duration of the day, the goal is to observe what's real! I want you to remember moments, not what I made you do for a photo! It's from this place where I am able to make photographs that show you signs of real life and evidence of actual, beautiful experiences!

In the context of weddings.
